Saturday's Best Bets: Spanish can make a Point

Tippin' Jimmy hopes to make your Saturday a profitable one, with his selections on the weekend's action.

1:35 Chantilly - Cape Byron (7/2)
A group winner in waiting is Cape Byron for Roger Varian and Andrea Atzeni. He won so impressively, coming back from a break, at Ascot last time out and deserves to step into listed company in France today. This is much tougher, but there is a lot more progression in him.

1:50 Ascot - Waady (15/8)
John Gosden's four-year-old looked like he had a bit of class about him when fifth in the King's Stand, and a narrow loser in the Palace House last season. He hasn't built on that promise this season, but may do in listed company this afternoon. This season he won well in conditions company, before finishing fourth at Group Three level. Today's slower ground is a positive, as is the drop in grade.

2:00 Limerick - Spanish Point (13/8)
Ballydoyle have lost out on a few Galileo colts to Godolphin in the sales this week, but they could play an ironic role if their Frankel colt defeats the Juddmonte favourite here! Spanish Point has an exceptional pedigree, being out of a Lockinge winner in Peeress. He has some entries in big races further ahead, so connections will be confident he can break his maiden after losing out to a stable companion at Tipperary last time out.

2:25 Ascot - Waldgeist (8/11)
Andre Fabre visits Ascot with high expectations in his horse Waldgeist. The three-year-old is a hot favourite in this Group Three contest, having finished second in the French Derby and a unfortunate fourth in the Irish edition. He wasn't too far off winning either of those races, and is the class act on the racecard today. He should win this easily on his best form.

3:10 Limerick - Zawraq (11/8)
Zawraq is another who has a bit to prove this afternoon. Dermot Weld's five-year-old has suffered an injury-plagued career but may return to winning ways this afternoon. He was a massively impressive Guineas trial winner two years back but hasn't been straightforward since. He needed the run when second at Listowel, with this race clearly in mind. He should be much fitter, and if he can reproduce his class he should win this.

3:50 Newmarket - Yaafour (10/1)
There are two things I am sure of in racing. One, Ryan Moore knows his horses; two, Ryan Moore is the jockey you want in a 27 runner contest. Moore has stuck with Yaafour for this hotly contested race at Newmarket. He was a good maiden winner Lingfield, before finishing third at Sandown last time out. A drop to six should be fine, and I just hope the draw won't hinder him.

4:15 Fontwell - Battle Of Ideas (11/1) ew
After my 50-1 fancy picked up some each way money, I had to go with another big priced fancy with Battle Of Ideas. He finished second at Chepstow when last seen in April, but has always been a horse to improve over hurdles. He has been reported in good shape, and could win a few races this season.

4:20 Limerick - Focus On Heaven (5/1) NAP
One of my horses to follow returns, and after a decently priced victory last month I am hoping for the same again. Jim Bolger rates this horse very highly, who won his maiden very well last month at Fairyhouse. He should improve from that, and can continue progressing. The form of the race has been boosted with the second winning since too. Considering it was coming back from a long absence, he looks a classy one. I told you to get on him before, and I urge you to do so again.

Lucky 15 - (Cape Byron/ Zawraq/ Focus On Heaven/ Spanish Point)
