2:25 Curragh – Nelson (4/6)
He’s not the biggest price, but he can do your accumulators some favours in the opener. This is another very good Ballydoyle horse, who made a good debut effort when sixth at Leopardstown and should improve a lot. He’s bred exceptionally, and the Coolmore team must be excited to see this son to Irish Oaks winning Moonstone get on track.

2:30 Sailsbury - Bullingdon (7/2)
After a fine effort at Newbury, I do think Bullingdon has the class to win this maiden event for Richard Hannon. He was third at Newbury, finishing half-a-length off a well-regarded Oliver Reed. He will improve a lot, and I think he can run a big race.

3:55 Curragh – Conversely (4/1)
This name sticks out in my mind, as he’s been backed into a very short price in his last two starts but could only finish second in maiden company. Those runs are pretty smart, and the winners may pan out to be quite good in the future. With his form, he’s the one to beat.

4:15 Redcar – Pete So High (6/1)
Richard Hannon’s nice three-year-old looks to have a strong chance here, and take advantage of a falling handicap mark. He was a winner of a good maiden back in January, but has struggled when tested over longer trips. This looks his optimum distance, and his Bath third has worked out very well since (second won by seven lengths on next start, fourth won by one). With star jockey Silvestre De Sousa on board, he could go very close.

Sunday's Best Bets: Cotai can return to Glory at Chester

After just being touched off a 28-1 winner in the Stewards Cup, Tippin' Jimmy gives his verdict across Sunday's card.

2:45 Deauville (FRA) – Caravaggio (5/4)

I really believe Caravaggio is something quite special, the way he won at Ascot was absolutely awesome and I think I’ll struggle to look past him for a while now. The July Cup just didn’t go right, but he is the class horse in this race and I fully expect him to go out there and stamp his class on the race.

2:55 Dusseldorf (GER) – Wuheida (11/10)

Charlie Appleby has got a classy filly on her hands, and I do think she is the one to beat in the German Oaks. She won both starts of a juvenile, and returned from injury to chase home Roly Poly in the Falmouth. That run is massively encouraging, and she looks the best in the race by a bit.

3:40 Chester – Navarone (5/1)

Richard Fahey’s four-year-old was an encouraging winner back at Beverley a few starts ago, and has been in good form since that victory. He ran a great race to finish second at Ayr, before a tad below-par when fourth on return to Beverley. That was a good race, and he should be better than that performance. His draw isn’t ideal, but if he breaks well he has a strong chance.

4:15 Chester – Cotai Glory (9/4)

I am a big fan of this horse, and I do think today’s test will see how good he is. He’s run some good races over five furlongs, finishing midfield in the big races over the middle distance. Charlie Hills’ five-year-old steps up to six today, but that may help him out. He’s drawn well, and has a huge chance.

Saturday's Best Bets: Six Strings the tune at Glorious Goodwood

Tippin’ Jimmy gives us his verdict on Saturday’s card, featuring the last day of Glorious Goodwood.

1:50 Goodwood – Six Strings (12/1)
I was quite taken by this horse’s performance in Scotland last month, and he looks like one who is going the right way. He’s quite consistent, and has always run good races in handicap company. He is definitely better than his mark suggests, and I expect him to run a huge race. The ground is a little worry, as is the draw.

2:25 Goodwood – Mainstream (7/1)
Ryan Moore and Sir Michael Stoute team up with Mainstream, who is getting so close to winning at a big meeting but not there quite yet. He was last seen finishing a promising second to York, and that form is pretty strong in this. The extra two furlongs should help, and I imagine he can run well on the ground too.

2:40 Newmarket – Tig Tog (8/1)
One horse who will have her day within time is Tig Tog for Richard Hannon. She showed plenty of class when fourth in a decent maiden at Doncaster, and is given a nice handy mark for her handicap debut. There’s more to come from her.

3:00 Goodwood – Crystal Ocean (11/8)
In this tight little race there is not very much between Crystal Ocean and Khalidi, but I just have a feeling Sir Micheal Stoute’s runner has a good win in him this season. His Dante and Royal Ascot runs were both pretty strong, and he will be expected to win now eased into Group Three company.

There is a lot for Richard Fahey to look forward to with Northwest Frontier

3:25 Thirsk - Northwest Frontier (4/1)
A son of Galileo, he looks to be progressing nicely for Richard Fahey and has strong claims in this. He won well on his second start to break his maiden, before struggling with a lack of pace at Hamilton last time. Optimum conditions will see him back to his best.

3:35 Goodwood – Aeolus (28/1) ew, Donjuan Triumphant (20/1) ew
One that has slipped off the radar a little is Aeolus for Ed Walker, who hasn’t been running too badly this season. He’s a horse who likes today’s conditions, is drawn well, and is on the good side of the handicap. He was last seen losing out narrowly in a Group Three contest, and hasn’t been changed by the handicapper for that effort.

Donjuan Triumphant has been lowered 4lb by the handicapper following his third place finish at Leicester last time out. Andrew Balding’s s four-year-old was beaten by seven lengths by Tasleet and Home Of The Brave, which is fair considering the pairs recent form. He will relish the conditions, but has a tough draw.

3:55 Doncaster – Gifted Master (5/2)
A sprinter who has plenty of quality is Hugo Palmer’s Gifted Master. On a return from a stint in the UAE, he ran okay in the Hackwood at Newbury and would’ve benefited from the run. He is dropped into an easier field here, but will need to show his best. A good run, should be enough.

4:10 Goodwood – Bathsheba Bay (15/8)
The maidens at Goodwood have shown a few odd winners throughout the week, but this horse does look to have a great chance here. Ridden by Ryan Moore, and trained by Richard Hannon, he ran a great race at Sandown last time out, and was unlucky to be narrowly defeated. That form is the best on offer here.

4:45 Goodwood – Mazyoun (9/1)
I like the chances of both of Hugo Palmer’s horses in this, but Mazyoun gets the verdict. He is got a terrific riding weight, which includes a 5lb claimer with the talented David Egan. He may want the ground to have dried up in the afternoon, but he is a consistent performer and should go well under this low weight.

5:20 Goodwood - Spring Offensive (12/1)
Ideally this horse needs to be dropped a few pounds to be very dangerous, but he does have nice each-way claims on this mark. He's drawn okay, and should handle the ground. It isn't the toughest of handicaps and he should go well.

5:35 Doncaster – Qatari Riyals (5/1)
A horse that should appreciate the return to five is Qatari Riyals. With a valuable 3lb taken off her back, she can go here with a strong chance after a string of good efforts this season. She has the speed to win a race like this.

Glorious Goodwood Day Four: Our trixie can give you a Profitable afternoon

Tippin’ Jimmy runs us through Friday’s racing, which features day four of Glorious Goodwood.

1:50 Goodwood – Poet's Word (3/1) , Crimean Tatar (20/1) ew

The ground is a complete unknown for Poet's Word, but he is a very nice horse who looks to be going the right way. He was last seen when beaten by a neck in a similar race, where Aidan O'Brien's Deauville got the better of him. He looks progressive and should run well.

I know Hugo Palmer thinks an awful lot of Crimean Tatar, thinking he would turn out to be a pretty good stayer. He only runs in a middle distance event, but does deserve his place. His first run of the season at Newbury was pretty solid, but things just didn’t fall his way in the Yorkshire Cup last time out.

2:25 Goodwood – Make Time (3/1)

One horse who is certainly going the right way is Make Time for David Menuisier. He has winning experience on today’s ground, and was formerly thought of to be a 2000 Guineas contender. He didn’t run his race in a hot Greenham Stakes, and the team had to look elsewhere. He stamped his class when winning in handicap company at Sandown last month, and can go well again.

3:00 Goodwood – Blair House (11/2) , Birchwood (20/1) ew

I was very taken with Blair House’s performance at Royal Ascot. He’s another who should be okay on today’s ground. The Godolphin three-year-old defied an absence to run on and take second in the Royal Hunt Cup, and I fully expect him to improve from that run for Charlie Appleby. Whatever happens with the weather, he should be fine.

Birchwood is another selection for the Godolphin team, and he brings a bit of class to the race despite his handler Richard Fahey struggling to find the right race for him. A former listed winner on today’s going, he was last seen finishing midfield in the Wokingham and steps up to a mile. Reports from home indicate he is doing well, and he will win one of these.

3:35 Goodwood – Profitable (5/2)

Last year I was a big Profitable fan, and I do think he can return to his best in Sussex today. He has experience on all ground, and seems to be in good form too. He was last seen chasing home the brilliant Lady Aurelia when second at Royal Ascot. That form stacks up quite well here, and I expect a big run from Clive Cox’s five-year-old.

4:10 Goodwood – Gift In Time (5/1) , Quayside ew (8/1)

James Given’s Gift In Time has looked like a nice horse so far this season. He ran an exceptional race on debut to finish second, to then head to Ascot where he only defeated two rivals. He returned to his best at Chester last time out, finishing well to win over five furlongs. He only won by a neck, but faced little room, and could be much more suited to today’s trip. He handled soft on debut too.

I like both of Richard Fahey’s chances in this, but my strongest chance is certainly Quayside. He looks progressive, and has been given a nice low weight. On his penultimate start he broke his maiden on the third time of asking, and looked to do that in quite professional style. Last time out he stumbled out of the stalls and that blew his chances. He deserves more luck today.

4:40 Goodwood - Sainted (8/1)

William Haggas and Jim Crowley team up with Sainted, who will absolutely love today’s conditions. She’s a progressive looking filly, winning three starts from four, and was last seen powering clear in handicap company on her seasonal bow at York. That wasn’t the strongest of races, but she did it in fine style and should improve from the outing. She’s won on heavy and soft, and I expect a bold performance.

5:15 Goodwood – Tuff Rock (16/1) ew

Tuff Rock deserves an each-way chance following his maiden victory at this track a month ago. He didn’t win by too much that day, but has a lot of potential to go and continue improving for Ed Walker.

£5 Trixie (Poet's Word/Make Time/Profitable) returns £500.

Glorious Goodwood Day Three: Can Winter brave the weather

An improving prospect in the making for Sir Michael Stoute is Frontispiece, who disappointed when sent off a hot favourite at Sandown last week. He had previously won both starts in good style, but could only finish third. He's a Shamardal, so should appreciate the slower ground and has been gifted a low weight. The only concern is his wide stall.

Hold Sway is another who will appreciate the ground. A good to soft winner on his penultimate start, he has been in good form this season, and should give a good account of himself.

2:10 Nottingham - Mother Of Dragons (7/4)
Prior to the Super Sprint at Newbury, trainer Joseph Tuite spoke really highly of this horse. I think they are expecting her to go on a win a few races, and a maiden win seems straightforward. Newcomers are always a danger, but she sets a very high standard.

2:25 Goodwood - Endless Time (10/3)
Endless Time is not only really good mare, but she will love the ground and should take all the beating. Her Lancashire Oaks win on soft, or Prix Royal-Oak second on good to soft sets a very high standard. She didn't stay in the Gold Cup, but was a very close fourth in the Yorkshire Cup the time before.

3:00 Goodwood - Nebo (7/2)
The Richmond looks to have a pretty good field once again, and I am siding with Nebo for Charlie Hills. He is clearly a capable horse after finishing second to Gustav Klimt at Newmarket, and that form is very promising on these terms. He won his debut on soft, and should be able to handle today's conditions much better than his rivals. I am expecting a big run.

3:35 Goodwood - Winter (6/4), Sobetsu (6/1) ew
Winter is the star horse in the race, and has shown her elite level of quality consistently this season. For me, it's a case of getting the ground; I strongly believe if she handles the conditions then she wins.

If Winter doesn't I will be looking for the Godolphin colours of Sobetsu, one who will relish the wet ground and is a Group One winner over today's trip.

4:10 Goodwood - Billesdon Brook (9/2), Tangled (7/1) ew
Billesdon Brook ran a great race when winning her maiden, and then went on to finish third in a listed contest. She is one that should go well on the ground, and sets a good standard.

Another for Richard Hannon is Tangled, who was a very impressive winner last time out. He has been raised 11lb, but I expect a bold show.

4:45 Goodwood - Magical (8/13) NAP, Ann Without An E (22/1) ew
Ballydoyle's Magical may just be that and is a worthy favourite here this afternoon. She enjoyed an excellent debut when second to an experienced rival at the Curragh, and the debut form from that race will work out strongly. She has the pedigree to be a superstar, and should enjoy breaking her maiden today.

Ann Without An E can fare best of the newcomers for Mick Channon, He's bred pretty well, and pedigree indicates he should be okay on today's conditions.

5:20 Goodwood - Megan Lilly (10/1), Poet's Society (12/1) ew
Megan Lilly is one that will certainly relish the conditions at Goodwood this afternoon, but also has plenty of talent. She won a similar affair at Chester last month, but has been beaten well on her last two starts. She is only 2lb higher than that win, and can take advantage of the soft ground.

Poet's Society is another who will enjoy today's conditions. His last win came at Newmarket on good to soft, but he has run well on softer before. His recent form has been a tad disappointing, but he should run better today.

7:15 Ffos Las - Alaadel (4/1)
Despite finishing my day's duties at Goodwood soaked and muddy, I did realise that the weather would help this one out a lot. Alaadel is a really nice progressive horse, who won on heavy ground on his maiden. Ffos Las is expected to be soft, which should suit. He has been disapointed since winning his maiden, but I am expecting today's ground to bring back the best of him.

7:30 Epsom - Coral Sea (3/1)
I backed this horse at Doncaster last time out, and he finished fifth when getting a very poor passage from the back. When he did find space he picked up well, so I am sticking with him today. He will like most ground, and should be good on the track. The only issue is the step up to seven is an unknown, but I do think he can handle it.

£1 Lucky 15 (Endless Time/Nebo/Magical/Coral Sea) returns £358.

Glorious Goodwood Day Two: Expect Moore glory for Churchill

1:50 Goodwood - Aurora Gray (10/1)
In a difficult opener I am going to side with Aurora Gray who I feel there is more to come from. She has been switched to stayers and sometimes it just takes a while for a horse to bring their best. She looked a certainty to win at Newbury last time out, with three furlongs to go but just didn't see her race off. But she lost out to a good rival, and that form has worked out quite strong.

2:25 Goodwood - Secret Advisor (5/1)
William Buick must have chose to rode this horse, which is an obvious betting indication. Charlie Appleby's three-year-old has been running okay, but should have a bold chance now dropped into handicapping. He ran a great race to finish behind two top horses at Royal Ascot last time out, and that form is rather strong for this.

3:00 Goodwood - Happy Like A Fool (10/3)
I know this is a horse who is thought very highly of in Wesley Ward's juvenile team, and she was beaten at Ascot last time out pretty fairly. I did think she would win that day, so faces a tough ask to return here. My worry is the track, and the weather; but if she handles both she has got a serious chance.

3:35 Goodwood - Churchill (2/1)
We have seen plenty good battles at Goodwood over the years and I do think this one promises to be another. My verdict has to be Churchill however. He has been brilliant in winning both classics, and just didn't run to his true best at Royal Ascot. He gets 7lb less than Ribchester, which may just be the deciding factor between the two.

4:10 Goodwood - Lamya (11/2)
Richard Hannon and Ryan Moore team up with Lamya, who made a promising debut effort at Newmarket. He only finished sixth that day, but travelled well and eventually the form has been working out quite strongly. He should improve, and I do fancy his chances.

4:45 Goodwood - Turning The Table (14/1) ew
David Simcock's three-year-old has got talent, but I just don't think he has shown it on his last two starts. He was an encouraging winner at Windsor, before two poor efforts since. He is on a decent mark and should give a true running of himself.

5:20 Goodwood (Arab Race) - Tayf (3/1)
Although my knowledge of these races is quite poor, Oliver Peslier has come here to ride in this race and as a top jockey I don't expect to see him going home empty handed.

5:50 Goodwood - Sun Lover (11/2) , War Glory (8/1) ew
A nice Roger Varian horse I have been following is Sun Lover, who was so unlucky when beaten narrowly at Doncaster last time out. This horse is gradually improving, and his mark is unaltered since that run. I expect him to add another win to Andrea Atzeni's growing tally.

War Glory is one that will strike in a big race like this, Hollie Doyle's claimer is also a bonus.

Glorious Goodwood Day One Tips: Chords can make a Vibrant start to the week

Tippin' Jimmy picks out his selections on day one of Glorious Goodwood.

1:50 Goodwood - UAE Prince (15/2)
One horse who has been disapointing this season is Roger Varian's UAE Prince. He looked a progressive type last year, who deserved his place in Group company. However he hasn't shown his best in two starts, and today could be the day he returns to winning ways. He should like the good ground, and can take the beating today.

2:25 Goodwood - Seahenge (3/1)
Seahenge is arguably a risky bet for the Vintage Stakes, but one I am hoping will pay off. He showed so much class when winning on debut, running very green but still winning. He needs to be more mature today, but there is no doubting he has the potential and quality to win this.

3:00 Goodwood - Limato (7/2) , Home Of The Brave (15/2) ew
I have always been a big Limato fan, and I was very taken with his performance at Royal Ascot when third in the Diamond Jubilee. He followed up well with a strong effort in the July Cup so certainly deserves his place here. He should like the quick ground, and will be best over seven furlongs.
Home Of The Brave has been steadily prepared and should be running well at the end, I would imagine him picking up some place money.

3:35 Goodwood - Big Orange (5/4) , Stradvarius (12/1)
Big Orange is my win selection, and he is the one that would cause a shock were he to lose. He has won this in the last two years, and fully deserves another crack after battling so well to Gold Cup glory. Stradvarius has to be fancied as an each-way chance after a strong Royal Ascot win.

4:10 Goodwood - Oliver Reed (15/2)
After the narrowest of defeats in a Newbury maiden, it is hard for me not to expect a victory for Oliver Reed. The well thought of prospect should improve a lot from that run in Berkshire, and looks set to go well in this very hot maiden affair.

4:45 Goodwood - Vibrant Chords (8/1), A Momentofmadness (9/1) ew
Vibrant Chords is a very progressive sprinter, who always seems to show his best at Goodwood. On his penultimate start he was a mightily impressive winner back in May over today's trip, and on that form deserves the verdict here. The only worry is, he is 6lb higher. A Momentofmaddness was beaten that day, but has been progressing since and is a sprinter who will win a big handicap over this trip.

5:05 Worcester - Cole Harden (8/11) NAP
My one bet from outside of Sussex comes in the shape of Cole Harden who is looking to break his chasing maiden. He is a star performer, and although he has been defeated on his last two efforts over fences today should be the day for him.

5:15 Goodwood - Ghadaayer (8/1)
Jim Crowley and Sir Michael Stoute team up with this improving prospect who was an encouraging Newmarket winner when last seen. His record this year is two from three, and although he didn't win by much I do think she is beginning to get better from each run. I rate her, but this does look a competitive race.
